About Katie…What Does She Have to Offer?
I have always loved an artistic outlet. My tagline for my business is “This IS life”….photography is a documentation of life experiences and the images you make help to preserve moments in that life. But if you’re wanting to make a living off your photography, it takes both the vision and love of photography AND a smart business approach to succeed. I worked as a retail manager for over 10 years (since I was 19 years old). I studied in depth what it takes to run a successful business on the back end, honed my sales and customer service skills, as well as recruited, retained and built up successful sales forces. While doing this, I developed people and helped them to attain the goals they had in their career. Two years I ago I gave up my successful management career to pursue my passion of photography. I knew from the very beginning that I didn’t want to be one of those “small business statistics”. I was NOT going to be part of the overwhelming percentage of people that fail within their first 5 years. So I’ve spent countless hours learning and seeking out like minded people who are willing to share and help myself and others prosper. Two years later I have a busy, successful studio, I’ve been asked to speak at photography conventions in London (SWPP) and Las Vegas (WPPI), and I balance this with a husband in the Navy and 3 small children!
The “Out of the Box” workshop is a culmination of my learning experiences over the past 10 years. A business is a business whether it’s photography or not and photography doesn’t have to just be a portrait business. Who’s This Workshop For?
Out of the Box is for anyone interested in photography. This complete workshop will go over not only business aspects of photography, but topics like finding your shooting style, how to effectively market to your target client, pricing, and different avenues you can take through photography from enthusiastic hobbyist to portrait, wedding, or commercial and stock photographer. We’ll also have a live shoot with models. We’ll go through posing, getting clients to relax and different shooting styles. Lastly this workshop will cover post production and work flow issues that we all face as photographers. So basically anyone and everyone interested in stepping up their photography business is welcome and invited to attend.
