Happy 4th of July America! As I was lazing around in my much missed bed this morning (two weeks away and sleeping in hotel rooms and guest beds made me miss mine even more!), I was thinking about all the blessings we enjoy as a nation. This has been recently on my mind with all the things going on the world both publicly and with private people. I’ve been keeping up with a situation in China with a photographer I follow Sandy Puc. She’s free now, but her and her teenage children spent a week in quarantine in China because of the H1N1 virus. Reading her situation of being taken from their very comfortable hotel in Shanghai to the quarantine location and the conditions they lived in for a week is eye opening and the very fact that most of their freedoms were non existent was very humbling. Also, countries like Iran and Honduras, that are even at this moment fighting for freedoms that we take for granted, make me feel blessed. It’s true….freedom is never free!

Today I’ll remember the people in the history of our country who have fought and died for us to enjoy what we have, and remember the people who currently serve and I’ll try and convey to my children how blessed we are. Then we’ll go hang out at BBQ’s, go boating and watch the “boom boom’s” as my kids call them:)I think we’ll even hit up a firework stand and let them pick out some cool ones this year. Have a great and safe day!

OH! and I PROMISE that this Monday will kick off the TOTALLY RAD contest!….hint hint, so stay tuned!

Elli - This is a lovely shot. Sandy’s situation reminded also me of how precious our freedom is. What a blessing to live freely in this country!
