You know someone…
You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty. You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography – $750 worth, to be exact. Whether it’s a custom book, canvas, prints for Grandma, or a slide show to watch over and over…it’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve. Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a $250 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be?

The rules:

You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-home does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

The nominee must reside/be willing to travel to the Kitsap County area. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well. E-mail me the full story: katie@amandakphotography.net. …get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!  THIS IS FOR SENIOR PORTRAIT PICTURES ONLY!

Open your heart to someone – and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.
Many thanks to the other photographers joining me in this spirit. If you are not local, check out www.givingisawesome.com to see if there’s someone closer to home for winning portrait-y goodness!

{Project 52, week 4 and a SP | Seattle Photographer}

I’m changing things up a bit.  I decided that I wanted to post AND announce the next weeks topic on Sundays….so that’s what I’m doing:) To be honest I feel like I wimped out this week.  I may have to revisit this topic again because I just don’t feel like I lived up to the potential I could have brought.  But I STILL did it and that’s what matters.  I’m still in the game:)

It seems like the weather has just been against me every week!  This week was no different, in fact it was the worst of any so far.  Anyway Urban was the topic and I drove the back alley’s of Bremerton to find these places.  Some I’d been past before and some I’ll definitely be revisiting for future shoots:)

I tried a little bit different processing this week also…..not sure how I feel about it yet, but let me just say a LITTLE goes a long way.  I toned this down to 25% and it’s still…..different.  It definitely gave some depth and punch to the image though and made it look how I really saw it.  I used “Super Heroine” from TRA which I’ve never even tested out before.

Now, next week I’ll be doing “SMALL TOWN”  that’s the topic and I’m excited about it because I know exactly what I’m going to do.  I promise my 2009 Lifestyle post will be up this week.  The workshop is kicking my booty it’s coming up so fast!  I’ll leave with a Sneak Peek of the shoot I did on Saturday.  I love 6 month olds!

Sara Beth - I like the moss growing on the bricks- it’s a neat contrast. Love that bottom right one! And that girl is just too darling.

Elli - Cool alleys! I can’t wait to see some urban portraits there!

That little lady is adorable – all soft, squishy, roll-y…so cute!

{Trainers and Winners | Seattle Wedding Photographer}

Well FIRST of all, thank you to EVERYONE that voted in the recent contest I just held on the wedding image of 2009!  It was my first year shooting weddings and I feel like I’ve learned TONS but also, more importantly, I’ve become a better photographer, and a better business person.  The winner of the 10×15 metallic print was #8 Krista and Paul!  Congratulations you guys and be looking for your print in the mail in the next few weeks!  And just because I’m SO thankful for ALL of my wedding clients this past year, I’m going to be sending something special to each and every contestant!  I can’t wait to see where 2010 takes me on my journey in a career that I absolutely LOVE!

As I blogged a few weeks back, about my goals for 2010, one of my personal ones, was to get healthier this year!  Well, as I crawled out of bed this morning, because everyone knows I am NOT  a morning person, I was super excited!  Like INSANELY excited!  This morning, at exactly 10:30 am I met for my fitness assessment with my new personal trainer!!!  If you can’t tell, I’m SO excited!:)

I’ve been going to they gym quite regularly over the past few months but kind of felt like I didn’t know what I was doing.  Two weeks ago I attended a health fair and Ramona came to talk to us.  I’ve known Ramona for a few years, I’d see her in the mornings when I worked in training and was training my new associates on the registers.  She’s cute, fit and just the model of how healthy I want to be!  So I’ve known that Ramona trains and works at the gym leading classes and stuff for a while.  She came to the health fair and talked to us about diet, strength training and  cardio, and then let us know that there were some packets after the presentations, to fill out, if we wanted to set up a a training schedule with her.

Well internet, I decided then and there that I was going to set up an assessment and get my butt into wicked shape this year!  Today was the first day  of that.  I think I did pretty good on the cardio test, flexibility, and heart rate test.  BIG FAIL on the sit ups and push ups.  HELLO!  only 20 sit ups in a minute?  YIKES!  and I’m talking about full back to knee sit ups, not crunches!  Still, not very good.  We didn’t even time me on the push ups-oh internet!  Where did I fall off the bandwagon?  In high school I was totally fit!  I could do push ups, pull ups, I flung people up in the air in cheerleading.  I mean I HAD MUSCLES!  I’ll admit it though… I did 6 full body push ups SIX LOUSY PUSH UPS, and then crumpled into a heap on the floor, my arms shaking from the strain!  EMBARASSING!

We also did weight, BMI and body fat %.  Let’s just say that I definitely have something to work towards…but I’m excited just the same!  Friday I’ll be back to customize a workout regimen tailored for ME and what I need to do.  Not just going to the gym and doing 45 minutes of cardio on the ellipticle or treadmill, but a REAL workout incorporating strength training AND cardio.  Nathan and I are going to go to Hawaii this year, and I AM wearing the sexiest bathing suit I can find…..(and that doesnt’ make me look like a hoochie).  So HELLO 2010!  It’s going to be the best year yet!

Stay tuned tomorrow for the start of the Lifestyle portrait of 2009 contest!  It’s going to be BIG and it’s going to be FUN…..and it’s only going to go for 4 days!  So get those fingers ready to vote!
